Re: Move to Virtual for November 19 & 20

Good morning Anderson-Shiro school family,

Unfortunately, COVID is in our community and we have seen a slight increase in cases over the past couple of days.  Our numbers are NOT high and I certainly do not wish to alarm anyone that we are at a concerning threshold of positive cases.  Currently, we only have 5 active cases in the district and overall have only had 11 since we began school on August 12.  We have had 65 successful days of school and we are very proud of the efforts EVERYONE in the OWL family has implemented to help reduce the spread and mitigate COVID cases.

With Thanksgiving break only 2 days away, we have an opportunity to help do our part to mitigate the spread of COVID.  In this circumstance, I believe it is in the best interest and safety of all students and staff to move to virtual classes for tomorrow (Thursday and Friday) November 19 & 20.  Your child's classroom teachers & staff will be in contact with work to be completed these 2 days.  ASCISD will plan to resume classes face to face as normal on November 30 after the break.  If your family needs breakfast and lunch for your children on Thursday and Friday, ASCISD will be prepared for these to be picked up at a specific time and location on Thursday.  Please notify your child’s campus today by 3:30 pm.

With this decision, ALL Junior HIgh and HIgh School Boys and Girls Basketball practices and games will be canceled until November 30.

Owl family, we need your help in this situation, we need you to limit travel and participation in gatherings of 30 or more persons.  Please wear face coverings when social distancing is not possible and protect yourself and your family members.  I do not feel we should panic in any way but we should do our part in the OWL family to get our kids back into the school buildings after the break.  I am hopeful these 11 days will provide time for everyone to rest and give our bodies recovery time from COVID and possible exposures.

Thank you ALL for your continued efforts to help mitigate, support for the staff, and caring and guiding heart you have for Anderson-Shiro CISD.  The OWL family is awesome and we are pleased you allow us to educate and take care of your most precious assets!!

Thank you for your time and I wish each of you a blessed Thanksgiving!
