Re: COVID 19 Information and Update

Greetings Owl Family,

I would like to take a few minutes of your time to provide some brief information and an update on COVID-19 for Anderson-Shiro CISD.

Notifications of COVID-19 positive cases:

As required by the Texas Education Agency, ASCISD posts updated notification letters on the district website for every positive COVID-19 case reported in the district by parents and staff.  ASCISD notifies the parents of ALL students determined to be in close contact with the student or staff member that has been reported as Lab-Positive with COVID-19. Close contacts are determined through an interview process utilized by our school nurse and campus administration as we contact trace.  ASCISD attempts to contact parents of these students on the same day if at all possible (pending notification time frame to the district).  Through the notification of possible close contacts, the CDC and TEA guidelines of return to school and quarantine is noted.  **ASCISD has ceased to send notifications (by email or social media) to every parent in the district earlier in the year because there was continual confusion on the specifics of each case.

Current COVID-19 situation (as of 8:00 am December 14, 2020):

  • ASCISD has 1 positive staff member. (Secondary Campus)
  • ASCISD has 2 staff members in quarantine for close contact with family members (Not related to the staff positive case) (Secondary Campus)
  • ASCISD has 1 student positive (Secondary Campus)
  • ASCISD has 13 students in quarantine for close contact (The majority of these are for not properly wearing face coverings during class.)

So what has ASCISD done to help mitigate the spread?

ASCISD has put a couple of major steps in place to help mitigate COVID in the building.  First of all, ASCISD signed a contract with J-Ferg Pros, The Germinator, which is a company that specializes in deep disinfection and “Shield” protection for up to 90 days.  You can see more about this product on our district website.  In addition to this first line of defense, ASCISD has dedicated staff to daily disinfect every common area and classroom.  These applications take place every morning prior to students and staff arriving at school.  Also, our bus drivers disinfect their buses daily.  ASCISD is dedicated to doing all we can each day to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in the school.

I request everyone to discuss the importance of properly wearing your face covering at all times while on the bus and at school.  At the beginning of the year, we had positive cases and VERY few students sent home to quarantine for close contact.  This was due to our students being diligent in properly wearing the face covering.  ASCISD staff continually remind students of this necessity and we ask that you please reinforce our requests.  COVID-19 is affecting all of us in some way or another.  We need to support each other and continue to do our individual part to help mitigate the spread.

The Christmas break is just a few days away and we all know spending time with family is especially important during this wonderful season.  Please be mindful of doing your due diligence for you and your family so when we return to school in January, we are not faced with a spike in cases which will inevitably cause the school to send more students home to quarantine for close contact.

Best regards,

Scott Beene
