About Me

My name is Stephen "Adam" Debes and I am the Director of the Owl Band.  I was born and raised in Beaumont, Texas, graduated from West Brook High School in 2008, and graduated from Lamar University in 2015 with a Bachelor's degree in Music Education.
During my time at Lamar, I participated in several major ensembles including Lamar's Concert Band, Wind Ensemble, Marching Band (aka The Showcase of Southeast Texas), Grand Chorus, Lamar Civic Orchestra, and Pep Band. I've also appeared as a guest singer with The Symphony of Southeast Texas. My primary instrument is the tuba. I can also play trumpet, trombone, baritone, and a little bit of piano.
My career in education began in 2016 when I was a substitute teacher at Nederland ISD where I subbed at grades 5 - 12 in all subjects. During my first year as an official teacher, I taught band and choir to grades 6 - 12 at Woodville ISD as the Assistant Band Director. I joined the Owl Family in 2018 and I'm looking forward to many more exciting and fun-filled years to come.
During the summer break, you can find me at the band hall getting everything ready for the following school year.  Away from the band hall, I drive for my family's ice-making business, "Debes Ice Company" in Beaumont, delivering bags of crushed ice to local convenience stores, restaurants, and supermarkets. In my spare time, I like to go camping, take trips to the beach, play video games, try out new restaurants, and spend time with my friends and family.
My goal as a music educator is simple- To make a difference in the lives of the next generation and to share with them my lifelong passion for music. In the words of Plato the Philosopher, "Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm to life and to everything." If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me. My office door is always open to you, even if it's closed. :-)  I'm looking forward to educating your children this year!
