Integrated Physics and Chemistry Course Information
and Procedures
COURSE DESCRIPTION: This introductory course presents the fundamental topics of chemistry and physics. It is the goal of this course to help you become more efficient in laboratory investigation techniques and problem solving methods, as well as the basic principles of chemistry and physics with their practical importance in our world.
MATERIALS: You need for class everyday - pen or pencil, Spiral Notebook and a folder/binder. You may wish to have a simple four-function calculator, markers or map pencils, scissors, red pen and a highlighter. You will also need to bring and turn in ONE the following:
GRADES: Grades for each nine weeks and for the semester will be calculated as per school policy outlined in your handbook. Your average for each nine week period will be based on the following; Academic Practice 40%, and Academic Achievement 60%. Quizzes will count as 2 Academic Practice grades. It is your responsibility to keep track of your returned papers and test grades. If you would like to discuss your grade, you can come in before or after school. Please do not ask for an in depth explanation during class time. I will post grades regularly so that you know where you stand.
LATE POLICY: Late work will be accepted with penalty for both Academic Practice and Academic Achievement, as explained in class. I drop the lowest Academic Practice grade (excluding quizzes) each nine weeks.
ELECTRONIC DEVICES: According to school policy, students may use their electronic devices (iPods, telephones) in the hallways and during lunch. It is expected that students will refrain from using these devices in class unless specific permissionis given by the teacher. Text messages and telephone calls (either sent or received) will not be allowed in class, but iPods and internet use MAY be allowed at certain times when such use is considered appropriate. Inappropriate use of electronic devices in class will result in disciplinary measures.
