ENGLISH 1

Course Description

Throughout the year, we will be focusing on: different genres, the writing process, literary devices, grammar, vocabulary, understanding context clues, and annotating.

            TYPICAL WEEK SCHEDULE:

                        Monday – grammar / vocabulary / writing practice

                        Tuesday – Thursday – unit lessons

                        Friday – class provided reading; library book

                        ** There will be a bell ringer each day, therefore everyone is expected to start this prior to / at the bell;

            LIBRARY DAYS  - These will be scheduled with a Remind to the students. 

PRIMARY UNITS OF STUDY:

            1st Semester:  Poetry, Literary Devices/Fiction, Making Connections Quote paper with Works Cited,

Collaborative learning & discussion of historical events that impact society, Animal Farm, Writing

Components

            2nd Semester:  Direct/Indirect Characterization Visualization & Writing, Poetry, Informational Texts, STAAR

Practice Writing & Concept Review, The Odyssey or Romeo & Juliet abridged

 
ENGLISH 3

Course Description

Throughout the year, we will be focusing on: different American genres, the writing process, literary / rhetorical devices, grammar, vocabulary, understanding context clues, and college & work force information.

            TYPICAL WEEK SCHEDULE:

                        Monday – writing practice/ grammar

                        Tuesday – Thursday – unit lessons

                        Friday – class provided reading; library book

                        ** There will be a bell ringer each day, therefore everyone is expected to start this prior to / at the bell         

            LIBRARY DAYS  - These will be scheduled with a Remind to the students

PRIMARY UNITS OF STUDY 

1st Semester:  Poetry, Native American & Early Settlers Readings & Literary Analysis paper, American Time Period Changes, Puritanism, Age of Reason, Enlightenment, Romanticism, American Gothic, Transcendentalism, Realism, Naturalism, Regionalism, Gilded Age 

2nd Semester:  Age of Rationalism & Rhetorical Persuasion, Argumentative/Persuasive Writing, Memoir Writing, Resume, Career Unit, Genre of Texas and American Multicultural readings, Modernism (The House on Mango Street)

 
YEARBOOK

Course Description

 Students are enrolled in Yearbook I, II, or III.  They are expected to:

    1.  Attend 3 hours of events and take 500+ pictures
     2.  Complete assignments by due dates
     3.  Learn camera functions
     4.  Create spreadsheets for the yearbook
     5.  All will work on planning, drafting, organizing, and preparing pictures / spreadsheets
     6.  Apply ethical standards
     7.  Aid in the yearbook creation professionally, clarifying, critiquing, and producing effective communication

Cameras & Personal Devices

 Our class is a lab and each student in class will have access to a Chromebook and/or other technology. Using your Chromebook is a MUST in Yearbook.

Use of personal devices in class will be limited. 

            It is preferable to use the school’s cameras unless you have a personal upgraded camera.
